Illustration Friday : Renewal

At work, I was drawing pictures from discarded newspapers. There, I found a picture of a woman lovingly carrying her newborn, (and new year), baby girl. Life is a cycle, just as the seasons pass from one to the other.

This drawing was completed Sunday, 1/3/09 with colored pencil and pens. It was drawn in the little journal I carry with me everywhere. I outlined everything, including shades, which gave it an interesting effect. I've been experimenting with different styles of pen drawing, and this one seems to appeal to me. Anyways, I hope you all enjoy it, and feel free to comment! I will definitely be participating in Illustration Friday more often!

IF : CLIMBING

This is a piece from my "Lucky Animal" series of paintings. So, I thought that this little guy was appropriate for the subject. This is done in acrylics. Hope you enjoy!

More Things from The Red Book

I try to sketch every day, or atleast when i'm not working. here are some previous entries in the red book.. like in the last couple months, that stick out to me.

"Her Imperial Highness.." I don't remember who this is.. i sketched it from a magazine i borrowed from my father-in-law. i like it because i think i captured the 'royal' feeling well. it was the first portrait i had done in a while.. even though it was small and stuck between a journal entry. so it was nice getting back to it.

Something i did while stranded at the airport over the holidays. My husband does something a lot like this, so i tried it out in my own way, whitch a rounder, softer touch. it takes up the whole page, and there are hidden images in them (mostly animals).

Man-ish Woman? that's what my husband thought. i did this last week.. i like here bushy eyebrows, saggy tired eyes, and jumbo lips. reminds me of amy winehouse meets rhianna.

'bald ego" i get it. do you?
really fun, just 1/4 of a two page piece.

thanks for stopping by. hope you enjoyed!

ILL. FRIDAYS : PALE

cool. i finished my first illustration! i'm really glad i found illustrationfriday.com.. i think it will keep me busy, inspired, and will strengthen my artistic skills and take me one step closer to my dream of creating art for a living. THIS PieCE is inspired by my mom and a lot of the women in the phillipines who strive to stay pale, like "Snow White" white.. it seems to be their thing over there.. they go to great measures to have it, skin creams, staying out of the light as much as possible, etc. I must say i wish i had a scanner for better picture quality.. but i'll have to make do with a digi cam.. anyways, i'm trying to teach myself how to make better pen and ink drawings.. i love how much detail you can create with a few scratches of the pen! i'm still learning how to make my work more vibrant in color and more detailed..which is kinda hard with a set of cheap watercolors, and no art education besides what i learned in high school. but practice makes perfect! I know i'll get better with time. So for something i came up within as little time i had, it's not too bad. I call it.. "forever pale."
